How to get started
Classes by Term
Suitable for beginners and anyone looking to develop their potting skills.
Each term is for 6 weeks and costs £180.00
Courses are paid for by term and require you to commit to the whole term of classes. Each session is 2.5 hours long and all materials and tools are provided along with refreshments. There is a small additional charge for fired work.
The shed has capacity for 4 students per session so advance booking is required.
The classes take place on Monday afternoon and 2 further sessions on Tuesday (Morning and Afternoon). Please enquire about current dates and availability.
Students will be taught a variety of Hand Building techniques. The course will cover:
Introduction to clay
Pinch & Coil techniques
Slab building
Slip decoration
Glazing
At the end of term students will have made a selection of hand-made ceramics that can be used or displayed at home.
Jo will support where students take on more challenging projects.
Taster sessions
Suitable for beginners and anyone looking to come back in to pottery.
The taster session costs £50.00 which includes tea/coffee and biscuits.
These sessions run on selected Saturday mornings. Early arrival is recommended so you can meet Jo and the other attendees. Everything will be provided for you, so you can just enjoy yourself in a relaxed environment. Jo will give you a general introduction to handling clay before moving on to guiding you through a variety of different hand building techniques.
Next you will get the chance to make something. a dish or small vase is a good starting point and is an enjoyable way to help you get familar with clay. You can also try out some different ways to add texture and decoration to personalise your work.
